Films at the witching hour
The New York Times has a fun bit on the evolution of midnight movies today that talks about the difficulties of programming obscure and cult films when such movies are so easily obtained on DVD. It ends with this piece of advice on how to pick a perfect midnight film:
"You have to imagine that a certain percentage of your audience will be high on various substances, and you want to find a movie of that quality."While I'm not one to partake in the whole illegal substances vein of fun, I will certainly attest that the absolute best theater-going experience of my life was seeing Evil Dead II at a midnight screening in Lexington, Kentucky at a theater that serves alcohol. Utter brilliance made, er, brillianter. Um.
