Fun With Fundies
Daniel Larison drops a blog-bomb on me for being snide to the misguided young woman whom I referenced for her belief that, in general, it’s best for young, single women not to go to college. Larison chides me for allegedly not being willing to recognize her commitment and submission to her faith, trying to make it seem as if my argument was that she made a bad choice by deciding not to go to college. But that wasn’t my point at all: I wasn’t alarmed at Suzy Homemaker’s choice for herself; I was bothered that she seemed to take it as correct Christian doctrine that her decision was the best, most sound decision for the majority of Christian women. She was, to be blunt, making a fairly plain statement that, due to their faith, Christian women should generally avoid going to college. And, at the risk of being harsh, I would continue to characterize that as a backward, fundamentalist, lunatic notion.

I was about to write a response to your reference to the poor woman blah blah blah when I noticed your top post in refenence to another who took you to task.
I read the entire post that the poor woman (Susan) wrote. Did you?
It seemed very level headed and sound not at all head stuck in the sand.
And yes, she was expressing her opinion. And very well.
She said that AT A TIME in college she thought no woman should have to go to college - in response to the rawness of her experience, and I think, her discernment (thanks to an apparently still gentle psyche) that the university was essentially training her and other women that marriage and family were wrong choices.
Obviously, she finished school, and her blog states that education should not come in the way of what was once referred to as womanly arts.
And she notes a woman should be able to support herself in a home based business.
That poor woman seems to be facing things head on.
Of course, I suppose the preferred woman is the career minded, killer kitchen, men are useless woman.
